This year the 12th International Architecture Exhibition of Venice shall be held from August 29 till November 21, 2010 and shall have as new director the Japan architect Kazuyo Sejima. The aim of the exhibition, together with the Biennale, is to celebrate the art of building spaces and both shows no longer want to be the art of the representation and celebration and want, with optimism, to break with the past. What most strikes about this Biennale is the almost total absence of real architectural projects and examples of urban transformation whereas more weight has been given to the concepts of idea and research projected. Whereas the previous Exhibition in 2008 was characterized by a sort of pessimism, due to the smaller confidence deserved by the buildings in front of enormous and impersonal spaces, this one of 2010 is optimistic as it proposes a series of visions and real transformations of the spaces. In order to bring the Biennale back to the first place in the world, the organizers have tried to bring the world into the spaces of the Arsenale and the Giardini. The visitor must enter imagining the future of architecture on the Earth. You will see, then, suddenly, along the way, a cloud appear in a room: a sensory experience proposed by Transsolar & Tetsuo Kondo Architects, a small change within the space occupied by the cloud produces a transformation into the cloud itself and the environment. Immediately after you enter a dark space in which, at times, the water games and strobe lights by Olafur Eliasson explode: a stunning and hypnotic experience. Our Reception shall be more than pleased to let you have any additional information about all these events and invite you to visit our offer page to discover our prices and availability for your next holiday in Venice at the Hotel Alle Guglie.

Lineadacqua’s products include books and events of superior quality, both in content and in form. Some examples are “Venice Food and Wine” of M. E. Chojnacka, an unique trip in the the preparation and enjoyment of seafood in Venice, a city on the sea and of the sea; for Venetians the sea has historically represented nothing less than freedom: freedom to move by boat through the city and beyond, freedom from invasion, and freedom from hunger. The Venice of today is a mix of tradition and innovation, and this book is a celebration of that combination. With its recipes and reflections on fish and wine, this book offers you the chance to bring a bit of Venice into your kitchen and onto your table. And as you enjoy these dishes with family and friends, remember that you are sharing in the story of the Adriatic Sea, its bounty, its history and its crown jewel, Venice itself. And again “When Venice Floods” of Giannandrea Mencini, dedicated to the Venetian tides; because of its exceptional morphology, built inside a lagoon, Venice has always been sensitive to this happening. The city is deluged by water several times a year, particularly between October and February when low pressure and cyclonic disturbances are more frequent. For all the others books we invite you to visit www.venicebooks.it, we remind you that all the books can be bought in the Hotel Alle Guglie as well, and that we are more than pleased to let you have any information you need about our prices and special offer for the next seasons.

This new and fascinating exhibition is held at the Fondaco dei Turchi in Venice, very closed to the Hotel Alle Guglie, and has new eleven rooms, a new reception area and big garden outside the building. A museological approach and a museological system, both of them with a modern and original scheme. After the total restoration carried out over the last few years, which led to the reorganisation and updating of the museum system, and after the complete restoration of the collections (which cover a chronological scale spanning 700 million years, with two million exhibits; zoological, entomological and botanic collections; fossils and anatomical preparations, as well as ethnographic collections, “wonders”, and a library containing forty thousand works), another important phase of the new refurbishment has been finished. What is opening to the public today in one of the most famous palaces in the city, the Fondaco dei Turchi, that is radically restored museum, on the one hand reclaims and develops its scientific and educational tradition and on the other appraises and proposes new tools and methods in terms of its contents and the exhibition layout. All of this is the fruition of the work of a committed group, which sees architects and communication professionals working alongside the museum’s scientific directors. We shall be more than pleased to let you have any additional information about the Museum and invite you to visit our offer page to discover our prices and availability for your next holiday in Venice at the Hotel Alle Guglie.

The city of Venice is paying a tribute to Zoran Music, the Dalmatian artist considered among the most important personalities of the Twentieth century, with a great exhibition hosted at Palazzo Franchetti from 3rd December 2009 to 7th March 2010. ‘Zoran Music. Estreme figure’ celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of the artist’s birth and it is made of more than eighty works, among which oil paintings and works on paper, some of which are unknown and exhibited for the first time. In particular the latest thirty years of the artist’s painting career are the object of a study, when his stripped representation has become extreme. Music’s works, going through nearly all the last century, actually show, in their rough and simple mark, a stripping journey towards the attainment of the essence. Unfailing are the images of an interior and extremely intimate Venice, where the artist lived after the end of the Second World War, alternating it with Paris. Venice is the town where Music feels free and which, in his latest years, appears as enveloped in an ink darkness or in the orange glow of an oil pastel: there are the evocative visions of the Punta della Dogana, the Canale della Giudecca, the Molino Stucky and St. Mark’s Square.

The Venice Carnival is the most important and largest Venetian festival, a sparkling cocktail of tradition, entertainment, history and transgression in this unique city and a festival that attracts thousands of people from all around the world every year. The Carnival has very old origins, in fact it celebrates the passage from winter into spring, a time when seemingly anything is possible, including the illusion where the most humble of classes become the most powerful by wearing masks on their faces. The official start of the Venice Carnival dates back to 1296, when the Senate of the Republic made the Carnival official with an edict declaring the day before Lent a public holiday. After an interruption lasting almost two centuries, the tradition of Carnival was rediscovered by the Municipality in 1980 and since then it has taken place every year with huge success.

From Saturday October 10, 2009 to January 3, 2010 The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is been hosting for the first time in Italy the exhibition ‘Prendergast in Italy’ that gives the public the opportunity to admire the works by the American Post-Impressionist artist who depicted the lagoon town and Italy in its whole in a huge number of artworks. Prendergast made all his works after two important trips in Italy, the first in 1898 when he stopped also in Padova, Firenze, Siena ,Assisi, Orvieto, Roma, Napoli and Capri, and the other in 1911. The display deals with the group of artworks dedicated to Venice, fixed by the artist in its modernity, through vivacious episodes of daily life. In fact Prendergast, as an American chronicler of a modern Venice, is fascinated by the modern nature of the Serenissima, with its rich and fashionable visitors, its parades and feasts which were, on the one hand, the representation of the historical tradition and, on the other one, the reply to international tourism, all this being depicted by means of picturesque impressionist views crowded with coloured multitudes of pedestrians going along calli, bridges and squares.
The 50 works on display, among watercolours, oil paintings and monotypes, beside photos, films, guidebook and travel advertisements, place the artist’s creations inside a new visual culture shared by the Americans at the beginning of the Twentieth century and contribute to create a strong impression of the topography, the habits and the Italian populations of ancient times.
